Tell us a little about how you met & talk us through the proposal
We met when we were both studying medicine at Queen's University Belfast. We were in different year groups but both applied to do a summer studentship at the centre for public health back in 2015. We instantly got on really well and actually went on our first date a few weeks after meeting. Since then we've been pretty inseparable. Due to the nature of our jobs, we've been lucky enough to work and travel together. We got engaged in January 2023 in St Andrews not long after we returned from working in Australia. We were both living in Glasgow at the time and it was a surprise weekend getaway Alan had planned. I didn't suspect much as we had talked about spending our weekends going on trips and exploring Scotland. The proposal itself happened at West Sands Beach. We were walking along the beach, casually chatting and people watching, I turned my head and Alan was down on one knee! It was a perfect day - I still remember worrying I'd lose/ drop the ring in the sand on the walk back!
