I began my journey with Galgorm Spa & Golf Resort in September 2018 after completing my GCSE's and AS-levels.
Following a work placement with school in a local restaurant's kitchen, my passion for cheffing and all things food was fuelled. I saw the apprenticeship advertised and jumped at the opportunity for hands-on learning at a 4 AA Red star resort in the career I had chosen. The experience, knowledge and qualifications that the apprenticeship offered was invaluable to a trainee chef. The attractiveness of being able to earn as you learn was also enticing.
After completing the apprenticeship and earning my Level 2 Diploma in Professional Cookery I was offered a full time job within the Galgorm Spa & Golf Resort. As I still had a passion to learn and further my skills the resort gave me the opportunity to complete Level 3 in Professional Cookery on a day release scheme. This was a fantastic opportunity and I gained my qualification in June 2020.
Galgorm Spa & Golf Resort has given me opportunities to work in a variety of different kitchens, environments and specialties. This has enabled me to work with varying menus and ingredients. The great atmosphere and togetherness of the Galgorm team has supported me throughout the apprenticeship and further studies. The employee benefits of working at the resort are a real bonus feature of the job.
This definitely has been one of the best decisions I have made for my career pathway and I would recommend it for any aspiring young chef.
